Ahead of the Scottish Government Cabinet's visit to Dumfries on Monday, local MP David Mundell has called on First Minister Nicola Sturgeon to use it as an opportunity to announce a moratorium on further wind farm development in Dumfries & Galloway.
Mr Mundell said:-
"The only thing many people believe Scottish Government has done for Dumfries & Galloway is to cover it in Windfarms. As I have said before, we really have reached the stage where is enough is enough as far as as wind turbines are concerned and there should be no more large scale developments. Where the Council has opposed such development, the Scottish Government has invariably overruled them as they struggle to meet the targets they have set for themselves.
That's why I am calling on Nicola Sturgeon to rule out any further significant development in this area. We have taken our fair share of wind turbines and local people don't want any more here. Local people support renewable energy, but share my disappointment that the only "renewable" energy source the Scottish Government seem willing to pursue is onshore wind, rather than invest in wave and tidal power, such as could be provided by a Solway barrage.
"If the visit to Dumfries is about listening to local people, the Scottish Government could start on renewable energy and in particular no more Windfarms."
