Local MP David Mundell has today welcomed news that additional services will be calling at Lockerbie. Today’s announcement that First Group have been awarded the TransPennine Express rail franchise means improvements for commuters with new trains, more services and better connections.
The increased number of services at Lockerbie station are very welcome, but more can be done to produce a timetable to fully meet the needs of local people, improve reliability of services and the range of services available at Lockerbie station, according to Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell, who raised Lockerbie’s case with train operators recently.
Mr Mundell, a long time campaigner for better rail services from Lockerbie, welcomed the real boost to rail services locally with the rail franchise awarded to TransPennine Express that will make a real difference to local people.
Commenting the Dumfriesshire MP said – “I am extremely grateful to Nick Donovan and the team at TransPennine Express who have listen to my representations and local concerns over the last few years to press Lockerbie’s case for a direct service from Lockerbie to Edinburgh arriving before 9am, and I’m glad that they’ve committed to additional services from Lockerbie as part of the franchise renewal.
“Local commuters and residents deserve clarity on what this means, so I’ll be meeting with train operators again in the New Year to press them for details on the new services from Lockerbie.”
