On 10 January, the UK Government published a consultation paper, Scotland’s constitutional future: A consultation on facilitating a legal, fair and decisive referendum. The consultation sets out the UK Government’s clear view that it is not within the powers of the Scottish Parliament to legislate for a referendum on independence. UK Government is also clear that it will honour its commitment not to stand in the way of a referendum.

Local MP David Mundell has called for greater transparency by online retailers after the findings of a report by Citizens Advice Scotland. The report showed that customers who shopped online from rural and remote parts of Scotland have been refused delivery because of where they live.

Local MP David Mundell was delighted by the response in his quest to find a winning design for his Christmas cards this year. The annual competition attracted over 600 entries from Primary Five pupils in 26 schools across the constituency, including 16 from Dumfriesshire, six from Clydesdale and three from Tweeddale.

David Mundell was on hand to join in the celebrations at Hay Lodge Hospital on Monday, at their annual Christmas party. The local MP was welcomed by staff and representatives from the WRVS charity, and was delighted to be there when a cheque for £3000 was presented to the hospital on behalf of WRVS.

Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell recently paid a visit to Thornhill sorting office to see first-hand the scale of the operation faced by postmen and women across the country at this time of year. Mr Mundell met workers and learned about how they cope with the huge increase in mail volume over the festive period.
