MP CALLS FOR WALKERBURN SIGN TO BE SEEN

Local MP David Mundell is calling for the 30mph sign as you come into Walkerburn on the south side of the bridge to be moved further out of the village to avoid it being obscured by trees which prevent the electricity substation being seen from the road.

MP CALLS FOR MACEWANS BUS SERVICE CLARITY

Local MP David Mundell has called on SPT to make public its plans for the MacEwans route that runs from Dumfries to Edinburgh. Mr Mundell has been contacted by numerous constituents across his constituency which the route largely falls within. Mr Mundell is concerned about any reductions in the current service given that it is used by commuters to get to work and is for many people who live in rural communities the only form of public transport available to them. 

MP WELCOMES NEW GENERATION OF BROADBAND FOR LOCKERBIE

David Mundell MP has welcomed BT plans to make faster broadband available to a further 124,000 homes and businesses in Scotland. Lockerbie is set to be one of 39 communities who will benefit from the roll-out program.  The town has been included in the scheme seen as BT’s next generation in broadband service delivered over copper lines.

QUILTERS HAVE LOCAL MP IN STICHES

Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell called in on the Clarencefield Quilt Group, who are hosting an exhibition of their work in Clarencefield Village Hall as part of the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival. The group have an extensive array of designs on display for the Hamden Project they are working on. They are joining forces with quilters from all over Scotland and beyond to cover the national football stadium in 5000 quilts to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer Scotland.

LOCAL MP GETS TICKETED-OFF

David Mundell MP has written to South West of Scotland Transport Partnership (SWESTRANS) expressing his concern and disappointment at their current ticketing arrangements. Mr Mundell has highlighted in particular the Lockerbie to Dumfries route which is currently operated by both Stagecoach Western (Service 81) and Houstons Coaches (Service 381). At present return tickets purchased on this route are only valid for services run by the bus company the ticket was originally purchased from. 

MP WELCOMES LOCAL COUNCILLORS

David Mundell MP welcomed two new faces on the local council, Annandale North Councillor Peter Diggle and Annandale East and Eskdale Councillor Karen Carruthers. Mr Mundell was recently joined at his Annan surgery by the pair to meet local residents, they also disused wind farms, broadband and the condition of local roads.

FOND FAREWELL TO RETIRED COUNCILLOR CALVERT

On Friday in Peebles night friends and colleagues joined Neil Calvert, former Tweeddale West Councillor, Finance Convenor and Deputy Council leader of Scottish Borders Council to honour his outstanding contribution as a Councillor, not just to his ward but residents right across the Borders. Neil, and his wife, Doreen were presented with a number of gifts and will be hosted at Westminster by local MP David Mundell in the autumn.
