SADLY, across the constituency, and beyond, coronavirus and the lockdown continue to dominate all our lives. My thoughts are, like those across the political spectrum, with Prime Minister Boris Johnson and his partner Carrie, in his battle with the disease.
My deepest sympathy goes to those who have lost a relative or friend as a result of the outbreak or have had their lives touched in other ways by this dreadful global pandemic.
It was moving last week that so many local people clapped, supporting doorstep tributes, in towns and villages to honour NHS staff, carers, pharmacy staff and the army of other individuals helping deal with the infection.
Also worthy of praise are frontline council workers, those in transport, supermarket and other essential sectors such as the volunteers helping deliver essential goods to vulnerable people being shielded or in self-isolation at home.
Elsewhere, companies like Cochran at Annan are on call round-the-clock to maintain or provide boiler equipment at key NHS sites, other firms in the constituency are doing their bit to manufacture much-needed supplies and, of course, media workers, like the DnG team at Annan, are working hard to keep us informed.
Meanwhile, many local events, including Dumfries Show, have understandably been cancelled and so it will be a very different summer ahead, but I remain confident that all our local events will be back, bigger and better next year.
We still have a long way to go on our Covid19 journey and new issues are cropping up daily. If you think I can be of help in any way please contact me by email at david@davidmundell.com or call 01683 222746.
