KEEPING up-to-date with a meeting at one of Mid Annandale’s largest employers this week were Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell and constituency MSP Oliver Mundell.
The two local representatives had a catch-up with executives and toured the Arla Foods site at Priestdykes, near Lockerbie, which produces a range of dairy products, including the famous Lockerbie Cheddar and preparing and bottling fresh milk, much sourced from farms in the region and supplied to a number of high-profile national clients.
Both politicians praised Arla UK’s ongoing investment, pointing out the fact that the creamery operations had been an integral part of the Dumfriesshire economy for generations, currently employing 240 people on site and a further 40 based there on the transport logistics side.
The original creamery on the site was officially opened by the late Queen Elizabeth in July, 1975.
