Clydesdale MP David Mundell has expressed his grave concern after it has emerged Biggar’s Langvout Court care home is set to close.
The shock news emerged as operators Bield Housing plan to close all of their 12 care homes across Scotland stating a crisis in the sector as being the main reason.
Now Mr Mundell is calling on Bield to provide urgent clarification to it’s residents, families and staff at the care home in Biggar about what their plans are for the future.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: “I am greatly concerned by the news that Bield are set to close their care home in Biggar in less than a year.
“With a lack of care home provision in the region, this is an absolute hammer blow for elderly residents and a hugely worrying time for their families.
“This is also putting jobs at risk and Bield need to urgently outline what their plans are for the future in terms of any care home provision.
“I will be writing to the council to also ask them how they plan to support the care sector going forward to allow our elderly residents get the care and support that they so badly need.
“Residents and families will be extremely worried at this news and I will be doing all I can to work towards a solution in the event that Bield do press ahead to close Langvout Court Care Home.”
