Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell has expressed "disappointment" at the proposed changes put forward by the Boundary Commission for Scotland.
Mr Mundell's current seat would be split into five different constituencies, including a new Clydesdale and Eskdale seat and a Dumfries and Galloway constituency.
Mr Mundell who has represented Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale since 2005 has urged people to get involved in the consultation process which is running until January 11 2017.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: "I support the reduction to the number of MPs, which will make Parliament more efficient and cost-effective. of which the inevitable consequence will be boundary changes.
"Obviously, I am very disappointed that it is proposed that the constituency I will have represented for 15 years by 2020 is going to be split 5 ways. I believe Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale has worked well and its been an honour and privilege to be the local MP , but I also recognise changing boundaries are a complex matter and want to reflect on what the alternatives might be to what is proposed.
"There is now a public consultation process, which I urge everybody locally and across Scotland to take part in to see what revised proposals might be brought forward by the Boundary Commission."
You can get involved in the consultation by visiting www.bcs2018.org.uk, e-mailing bcs@scottishboundaries.org.uk or by writing to Boundary Commission for Scotland, Thistle House, 91 Haymarket Terrace, Edinburgh, EH12 5HD.
