Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell has expressed his sadness and concern for the staff, after it was confirmed Moffat's childcare facility Small n Tall is going to close.
Mr Mundell had attended an EGM on Friday evening where the decision was taken by those in attendance to close.
Mr Mundell says now the priority is for everyone with an interest to work together to ensure suitable childcare is available for the children who attended, both during the day and after school. He also praised the staff at Small n Tall, for whom he said the closure was a “devastating blow”.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: "There was a great sense of loss and sadness at the meeting on Friday night, with Small n Tall having been a fixture in Moffat for almost 20 years. However, those present concluded that there was no alternative to closure.
"We need to now work together to ensure that the families that use Small n Tall have suitable alternative facilities going forward and that has to be the priority, in order to give parents clarity over their future childcare plans. Given the high number of users getting an out of school facility in place is particularly important.
"My thoughts are with the staff who are potentially going to be out of work, having been so committed to the children in their care over the years. This has clearly been a very upsetting time for them and they need all the support that is available."
