Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell says he is delighted his calls for a late evening service from Edinburgh to Lockerbie have been listend to by Transpennine Express.
The train firm have announced plans that will see a service run from Edinburgh Waverley departing at 22.15, arriving in Lockerbie around an hour later on Monday-Fridays.
This is a service Mr Mundell has lobbied for some time with train bosses, in order for his constituents to enjoy nights out in the capital and he says this should only be the start of further improvements at Lockerbie station.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: "A late night service from Edinburgh-Lockerbie is an issue I have fought tirelessly for as a MP, so I'm very pleased that Transpennine have listened to my calls for this important service.
"This late evening service will allow more of my constituents to enjoy nights out and entertainment in the capital, rather than having to rush back earlier or miss out on events altogether.
"Boosting services to and from Lockerbie is a top priority for me as the local MP, which will give a welcome boost to the local economy.
"I will be continuing to lobby train bosses to further upgrade services at Lockerbie, including a direct early morning service to Edinburgh and more trains on Sundays."
