On Friday in Peebles night friends and colleagues joined Neil Calvert, former Tweeddale West Councillor, Finance Convenor and Deputy Council leader of Scottish Borders Council to honour his outstanding contribution as a Councillor, not just to his ward but residents right across the Borders. Neil, and his wife, Doreen were presented with a number of gifts and will be hosted atWestminsterby local MP David Mundell in the autumn.
Speaking at the event David Mundell said:
“Neil has been a force for good locally and leaves very big shoes to fill. Not only did he speak out for the interests West Linton and wider Tweeddale West ward, but he brought his experience as a former bank manager to bear on the Council finances. Neil helped restore credibility to the Scottish Borders Council Budget and managed to achieve continued investment across the Borders, while keeping Council Tax frozen. He can be particularly proud of the proposed new West Linton Primary and the Council's involvement in the Newland Centre. Neil was highly respected in his ward and beyond, It has been a pleasure for me working with Neil and all those who know him wish him and Doreen, every success for the future.”
