LANDMARK DAY FOR GRETNA
David Mundell MP has welcomed the announcement of a decision on the design of the Gretna Landmark Project. The ‘Star of Caledonia’ design of famed Sri Lankan-born structural engineer, architect and designer Cecil Balmond has been selected ahead of other shortlisted designs.
Commenting after the announcement Mr Mundell said: “Like many local people I have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the winning design and I am delighted that the region could soon be the location of a design by such an eminent designer as Cecil Balmond. The Gretna Landmark Project will be a landmark indeed and make a huge impression on the millions of travellers, from near and far, who cross the Border at Gretna every year. We will now await with interest the development of the design as we move towards construction. I also commend Jan Hogarth and D&G Arts for their determination in moving this important project forward to get it to the point it is. The interest it has aroused nationally shows what an important project it is.”
