Clydesdale MP David Mundell has expressed disappointment and dismay at Patersons decision to appeal against the refusal of their application to extract sand and gravel at Overburns Farm, at Lamington. The application has twice been rejected by South Lanarkshire Council and will now be appealed to the Scottish Government. The Reporter will now take on the case and make recommendations.
Mr Mundell will continue to support the Clyde River Action Group (CRAG) which has led local opposition to the plans through this next stage of their campaign. Mr Mundell strongly believes that South Lanarkshire Council better understands the importance of protecting the beautiful countryside and River Clyde from unsustainable development and will make representations to make sure the Reporter understands local feelings on this matter.
Mr Mundell commented: “I am disappointed for local residents who have worked so hard to fight off this development. Patersons refuse to get the message that this development is not wanted and I will continue to do everything I can to oppose this application.”
