Local MP David Mundell has welcomed the news that Cummertrees Village Hall is set to be upgraded and has congratulated those in the local community who have worked tirelessly to make it happen. Following long running legal issues relating to the Deed of Trust, Cummertrees Village Hall can now press ahead with planned updates to their old electric heating system to a new, more efficient, oil-fired centrally heated one.
The work will be funded by a £7,000 grant from the Village Halls Improvement Scheme (VHIS). The grant was originally made in 2010-11. Following the legal complexities of the case, VHIS carried forward the money for another year on the conditions that (a) the new constitution was in place before the end of July 2012 and (b) the project work had to be completed by 31 March 2013.
Mr Mundell commented: “I am delighted to see this work go ahead – these improvements are vital to make the Hall fit for purpose. Congratulations to everyone who has worked so hard to make this happen, this just shows the power of community action.
“I am pleased a pragmatic solution was put in place to make sure the legal issues didn’t result in the funding being lost. I look forward to visiting the Hall in the future to see the work for myself.”
