TWO LOCAL parliamentarians joined the outreach team at Annan and District Day Centre during the festive period.
Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell and his son, constituency MSP Oliver Mundell, helped with the home delivery of Christmas meals.
With the regular Day Centre sessions at the Market Hall not taking place because of Covid-19 restrictions, staff and volunteers have been engaging with centre members and others in the community in alternative ways.
Manager Emma Irving explained that they were determined to safely maintain contact during the pandemic emergency, particularly with those who may be feeling isolated.
Describing the two local politicians as her extra 'elves,' Emma assigned them to assist on a home delivery route for Christmas meals.
They also called for a catch-up at the home of long-serving local community councillor Joyce Wylie, a member of the Day Centre and the management committee.
Afterwards, David Mundell said: "Annan Day Centre offers a wide range of activities for their 200 members but unfortunately, under current circumstances, their normal programme has understandably been adapted.
"Emma and her team are doing a terrific job of keeping things going and preparing for reopening whenever that is possible."
Oliver Mundell said: "It was clear that members greatly appreciate the meal deliveries and other on-going socially-distanced contact provided by the Day Centre.
"These are difficult times for many people and I know the members and everyone else involved with the Day Centre are looking forward to resuming their normal services as soon as it is safe to do so."
