Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell has welcomed the Brexit Deal secured with the EU on Christmas Eve and will support it in a vote in the House of Commons tomorrow (Wednesday).
Mr Mundell said: "I have consistently argued that every effort had to be made to leave the EU with a deal rather than a damaging No Deal, because that was the best outcome for my constituency, Scotland and the UK.
"I welcome the fact we have secured what is a good trade agreement, protecting EU-UK trade with no quotas and tariffs, while allowing us to strike new trade deals around the world and takes us out of the Common Fisheries Policy, which has done so much harm to Scotland's fishing industry.
"It also contains many other important provisions, such as co-operation on security and law enforcement issues, which was a concern for many.
"Of course, any such deal is a compromise and there will inevitably some people who will be unhappy with parts of the deal, but that is not a reason to vote it down and face leaving with No Deal on Friday morning and the disruption that would bring.
"We really now need to grasp the opportunities that come from this deal and work together to overcome any challenges. It's time to put the Brexit divisions behind us and move on, with defeating the coronavirus pandemic the absolute priority."
