THE LATEST in a series of 'Soup and Sweet Lunches' organised by Canonbie United Parish Church in the village hall proved a great success.
A volunteer kitchen and front-of-house team provided delicious soup and sweets along with tea and coffee for almost 60 people on a wet and windy Saturday.
Among the guests was Dumfriesshire MP and Scottish Secretary David Mundell, who praised the volunteers behind the 'legendary' lunches, which, he said, illustrated the village's warm community spirit.
After costs, the event resulted a £274 boost to church funds.
The next Soup and Sweet Lunch will be on Saturday February 23 when there will also be a clothes collection in aid of the Great North Air Ambulance.
