VILLAGERS in Clydesdale’s highest community, Leadhills, have been reconnected to the outside world thanks to local MP David Mundell.
Local residents suddenly found their landline phones would not work properly at the start of last week, failing to allow anyone to call out.
Villagers said when they called BT about the problem the utility at first did not think there was an issue, and when pressed indicated that it could be the end of the week before BT would look at the problem.
Concerned community councillors then turned to Clydesdale MP David Mundell last Wednesday and asked if he could help.
After his intervention BT found there was in fact a problem, and by Thursday residents were able to contact the outside world once more.
“This is a very remote area and one with a number of older residents so it is important that they feel secure and have working landline phones. Not everyone has mobiles and rural areas often have poor reception too. I was glad to be able to step in and help get this problem resolved and bring some reassurance to local constituents,” said Mr Mundell.
