Local MP David Mundell has headed up calls for action to be taken onLadyknowe Roadin Moffat, after months of complaints received from users of the access road toMoffatCaravanPark. The unadopted road has fallen into a state of disrepair with two very large pot holes just outside the entrance to Small ‘n’ Tall Nursery causing sever cause for concern. They each measure over 2 feet in diameter and are several inches deep, with the potential to cause costly damage to vehicles using the road.
An Action Group was set up to try to tackle the deteriorating condition of the road and find a lasting resolution to the problem. Dumfriesshire MP Mr Mundell recently organised a successful meeting between stakeholders to find a funding solution to repair the pot holes and prevent further damage and inconvenience to road users. The stakeholders who include Ladyknowe Flats, Birnock Water Flats, Edinburgh Woollen Mill, Loreburn Housing Association, Moffat Camping and Caravan Club and Small ‘n’ Tall Nursery have agreed to club together to pay for the works, which are anticipated to cost around £2000. The group is now only waiting for a start date for the work From the Council, which they are hoping will take place ahead of the busy Jubilee bank holiday period.
Commenting on the situation, Mr Mundell said:
"I have been assisting the various users of this road in trying to ascertain who has legal ownership and maintenance rights for this stretch of road. This has proved to be a difficult and complicated task. The road has remained un-adopted for some time which essentially meansDumfriesand Galloway Council has no obligation to mend the potholes. Due to the number of users, residents and businesses that operate in the vicinity of the road, and its appalling condition, it has become an urgent task to try and get the situation resolved.”
“I hope that this positive solution can give those involved a much needed resolution until the ownership issues can be resolved once and for all.”
Mr Mundell added:
“The success of the Action Group has been more than just “pot luck” and it is in its own way an important reminder of what people can achieve when they work together. I will continue to provide them with any support and help I can offer.”
