Tweeddale MP David Mundell has welcomed the news that a primary school in Peeblesshire has received funding from Kellogg's 'Give a Child a Breakfast' initiative. St. Ronan's Primary in Innerleithen was chosen by Kellogg's to receive a £450 grant as part of their campaign to provide breakfast clubs nationwide with the tools to help kick-start a healthy day.
The school can choose to spend the grant in any number of ways, and could include updating crockery and cutlery, purchasing new games for the children or buying food for the breakfast club. Kellogg's have invested £1.5m into the programme since 1998 with breakfast clubs across the country serving over a million breakfasts to children each year in a safe and sociable environment.
Commenting on the good news, Mr Mundell said: "I was delighted to hear that the Breakfast Club at St. Ronan's Primary School have been given a grant as part of the Kellogg's campaign. It's a real boost to the school and a great way to promote healthy eating.
“I have written to congratulate the school on being awarded this funding, which also recognises their Breakfast Club's efforts and commitment to encouraging breakfast culture among pupils."

Notes:
• As part of Kellogg's 'Give a Child a Breakfast' campaign, over 500 grants have been allocated to breakfast clubs around the country.
• Kellogg's has been working with learning charity ContinYou to develop and support breakfast clubs in schools since 1998.
• The initiative has received very positive feedback from parents and teachers, who believe the children benefit from being in this fun and safe environment before school, which in turn reflects on improved pupil behaviour. Examples cited include improved attendance and punctuality at school; better concentration in lessons and improved relations between teachers and pupils.
