Clydesdale MP David Mundell has welcomed the news that a local community group in Leadhills has been awarded a grant of over £90,000 to upgrade facilities in their local park.
Leadhills Family Action Group were recently successful in applying to the Big Lottery Fund for a £90,212 Community Spaces Scotland grant, enabling the 'Leadhills Play Park' project to benefit from the purchase of new equipment for the park. It will also enable the group to install new play equipment, chosen by the local community, for an existing recreational area in the centre of the village.
The play equipment will be grouped into two zones for younger and older children, which will be connected by an upgraded path and complemented by new seating and picnic tables. The area is already served by an existing car park and public toilet.
Commenting on the grant, Mr Mundell said: "I am delighted that a local community group has benefited from this substantial award. These improvements will create a space at the heart of the Leadhills community for families to meet, play and enjoy the local environment. I hope it will also encourage new visitors to the village, and I congratulate Leadhills Family Action Group on receiving this grant, which is very much deserved and I'm sure will be an invaluable resource for local residents for many years to come."
