David Mundell has welcomed the news that a local group has been successful in obtaining the lease for Moffat Town Hall from councillors, after years of campaigning for funding.
As constituency MP for Moffat, Mr Mundell has directly supported the Moffat Town Hall Redevelopment Trust in their discussions with Historic Scotland, who have released £224,000 for repair and maintenance work to the Town Hall.
The Trust, now celebrating their long fought for success at a recent Policy and Resources Committee meeting, have also been awarded a capital grant of £378,000 from the Council. Work on the Grade B Listed building is projected to commence by late summer, with the Trust now responsible for both the upkeep and management of the Hall, including lets.
Commenting on the Trust's success in securing funding from both Dumfries and Galloway Council and Historic Scotland, Mr Mundell said: "I'm delighted at the news and especially happy for the Moffat Town Hall Redevelopment Trust that their campaign has finally achieved a positive outcome. This sum will ensure a total refurbishment and make structurally sound the exterior of the building. It is great news for Moffat and I look forward to seeing the work in progress, which will hopefully have the support of the local community in helping the Town Hall fulfill its full potential."
