David Mundell MP for Dumfriesshire was pleased to show his support for the local Douglas Heritage Society who are in need of funds for restoration work by welcoming the winner of a charity auction for lunch and tour with him at the House of Commons this week.
The Fun Raisers Group within Douglas held a charity Strictly Come Dancing and Auction in Lanark to raise funds for the local Heritage Society and did an absolutely sterling job.
In 1993 the Douglas Heritage Society was generously granted the long term lease of one of the oldest buildings in Douglas (having originally been a church and visited by no less than Mary Queen of Scots in 1565 and HRH Prince Charles in 1978) by the Douglas Home family which saw the transformation of the building into the Douglas Heritage Museum. Today the museum aims to present the towns historical roots through a range of exhibitions such as the story of Black Douglas and his adventures with Robert the Bruce, James Gavin and the Covenanters and the town’s football, mining and weaving past.
Mr Mundell said: “The Douglas Heritage Society does an important job in the area, and I am keen to support them in their efforts to raise funds. I was delighted to welcome the auction winners Mr & Mrs Kane to Westminster in support of the Society, and I hope they had a thoroughly enjoyable tour and lunch.”
