Dumfriesshire MP, David Mundell, has welcomed an announcement from the UK Government of new funding to mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War.
Mr Mundell said “I welcome the recent announcement from the UK Government of £4 million of new funding to go to projects to mark the centenary of the beginning of the First World War. The new money is meant to help communities explore, preserve and share the role that local people played in the conflict.
“I visited some of the cemeteries last year with the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and I was struck by their work and how many communities across Dumfriesshire were affected.
“The additional funding is available to communities across the United Kingdom to help local people to learn more about the role that their local communities played in the First World War. It affected millions of people around the world, and we should never forget the sacrifices made by those serving at home and abroad.”
