Local MP David Mundell recently welcomed John McLatchie as the new Conservative candidate for Clydesdale.
Mr McLatchie, a retired police officer who has lived in the area for over 20 years is hoping to succeed Beith Forrest, who is retiring at the next election in May next year. Mr McLatchie has a keen interest in rural affairs and is involved with the Clyde River Action Group (CRAG), whose campaigning also has the full support of Mr Mundell.
Speaking after the meeting with Mr McLatchie, Mr Mundell commented: "I'm delighted to welcome John as the new candidate for our area. Local Conservatives have selected him to stand in Beith's place at the next election and I'm sure he will do a great job in joining Councillor Hamish Stewart to represent the interests of rural Clydesdale for the next five years if he is successful in being elected."
