Eskdale MP David Mundell says the Langholm jobs summit he hosted was a positive first step to take Langholm forward.
The meeting which was held at the Eskdale Hotel brought together local representatives including David Stevenson, Tom Millar of the Langholm Initative, Margaret Sanderson and John Galloway of the Community Council and Sarah Exton of Buccleuch Estates alongside agencies including Scottish Enterprise, Scottish Council for Development and Industry and Dumfries and Galloway Council and MSP Oliver Mundell.
All those round the table discussed how best to promote Langholm and how to attract people to live and work in the town as well as how to drive the local economy forward.
Commenting on the meeting, David Mundell MP said: “This meeting was very positive and was an important first step in helping to take Langholm forward.
“There was a lot of realistic discussion on how we can promote Langholm and encourage people to live and work here.
“The Muckle Toon has a lot of heritage and history behind it and it’s about how we encourage new industries and firms into the area to drive forward growth and employment.
“This meeting wasn’t about finding a miracle solution for Langholm but instead it has agreed upon a solution that will be community led and bring together everyone locally interested in taking Langholm forward.
“A bottom up solution led by those with Langholm at their heart is how positive change will be brought about for those living in the area.
“I am ready to offer support to those local groups and thank everyone for a very good discussion at the meeting.”
