Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell called in on the Clarencefield Quilt Group, who are hosting an exhibition of their work in Clarencefield Village Hall as part of the Dumfries and Galloway Arts Festival. The group have an extensive array of designs on display for the Hamden Project they are working on. They are joining forces with quilters from all over Scotland and beyond to cover the national football stadium in 5000 quilts to raise awareness and funds for Alzheimer Scotland. Mr Mundell praised the work of the group, and was given an insight into the inspiration behind some of the designs which feature on memory quilts, which hope to act as memory aids to those affected by the condition.
Commenting Mr Mundell said:
“It was great to catch up with Ann Hill and her team, their stories as ever had me in stitches. Their work is exceptionally creative and modern making it a must see attraction in this year’s Arts Festival.”
Mr Mundell added:
“Like all the best art their work has impact beyond the purely visual, acting as a harsh reminder of the serious difficult both individuals and families who live with Alzheimer’s face. Ann and the rest of the team deserve our gratitude for putting their passion to such important use.”
