Reacting to the news that RBS's branches in Biggar and Douglas are to stay open until the end of the year at least, Clydesdale MP David Mundell said:
"While it is welcome there has been a reprieve given to the branches in Biggar and Douglas, it is a worthless announcement if they are just going to close them at Christmas instead.
"Right now, all this is for local people and businesses is a stay of execution, so it can hardly be described as a victory and major u-turn from RBS.
"I would urge local people to use their branches to show how vital they are for local communities across Clydesdale and I am keen to work closely with the bank in order to sustain them for the foreseeable future.
"It is of great shame that we were ever in this position in the first place and RBS now need to understand the importance of these branches to rural communities."
