Local MP Lobbies for Better Train Services

David Mundell MP has called for an increase in mainline service provision at Lockerbie station in response to a consultation on the renewal of the West Coast Rail franchise. Mr Mundell has also called on the Department for Transport to ensure that local trains have greater capacity for passengers using Lockerbie stations.

Mundell welcomes Cheque Climb-Down

David Mundell MP has welcomed news that cheques are not to be scrapped after all. The Payments Council, an industry body that sets strategy for the payments industry, had announced in 2009 that it had set a provisional target date of October 2018 to close the cheque clearing system.

Landmark Day for Gretna

David Mundell MP has welcomed the announcement of a decision on the design of the Gretna Landmark Project. The ‘Star of Caledonia’ design of famed Sri Lankan-born structural engineer, architect and designer Cecil Balmond has been selected ahead of other shortlisted designs.

MP welcomes Annan British Legion Chairman

David Mundell MP welcomed Annan branch Royal British Legion Scotland (RBLS) chairman John Dewar to a reception at the Scotland Office in Edinburgh to mark Armed Forces Week and recognise the work of RBLS Scotland. RBLS National President Lt General Sir Alisdair Irwin KCB CBE also attended.

MP urges local people to submit views on A708 speed limit

David Mundell MP is asking local people to submit their views on possible changes to the speed limit on the A708 between Selkirk and the Dumfries and Galloway border. Scottish Borders Council is conducting a review on reducing the speed limit to 50 mph. Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP Mr Mundell is also calling for co-ordination between SBC and Dumfries & Galloway Council.
