Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell popped into the Royal Mail sorting office in Annan to meet Manager Dermott McCulloch and his team of local posties as they coped with the normal Christmas rush and a huge increase in parcels generated by internet shopping. David, who a frequent user of a Royal Mail services wanted to say thank you to all our local postmen and postwomen for the work they do not just at Christmas, but all year round.
Dermot McCulloch commented: “Our postmen and women are working extremely hard to deliver Christmas cards, letters and parcels to people locally and we are grateful that David Mundell MP visited the office to see our operation and to support the team during our busiest time of year.
“We’d like to remind our customers to post early so that friends and family have longer to enjoy their Christmas greetings.”
The last recommend posting dates for Christmas are:
Second Class – Thursday 18th December
First Class – Saturday 20th December
Special Delivery – Tuesday 23rd December
David said :- "In a rural area like this the Royal Mail does a vital job and that's particularly obvious at Christmas. I was amazed by the number of parcels now being delivered locally, which apparently is due to internet shopping and events like Black Friday and Cyber Monday. It presents new challenges for the Royal Mail, but locally it's clear to me they are more than coping. So thanks again to all our local posties, you do a great job all year round."
