Tweeddale MP David Mundell has praised pupils at West Linton Primary who have won a UK and Ireland wide technology competition meaning they will now represent the UK and Ireland at the world finals in America later this year.
Commenting Mr Mundell said: "My congratulations go to the ten strong West Linton Wasps team as it is a fantastic achievement not only to first beat the best competiton in Scotland but also to emerge as the best in UK and Ireland.
"The pupils have put in a fantastic amount of effort to secure their place in the world finals including coming up with an innovative solution to reduce the problem of wasted vegetables within their school.
"A policy of giving tokens to encourage pupils to eat vegetables has resulted in a 47% reduction in wasted vegetables which certainly ticks the innovative box the organisers were looking for.
"The fact they had to design, build and program a robot to tackle missions as well shows the level of creativeness by 'the Wasps' which has come to the fore over the course of this competition.
"I wish the team all the best for the finals in St Louis and I hope to be celebrating more success at West Linton Primary School."
