Local MP David Mundell held a coffee morning in Moffat at the weekend as part of the Armed Forces Day celebrations in aid of Help For Heroes.
Thanks to generous donations and the sale of baking and plants £250 was raised for this very worthy cause.
Mr Mundell, who was joined by local campaigners and members of the local community, was pleased to do his bit and help raise awareness.
Speaking following the event he said: "There is great support for our troops and there has been a real change in the way civilians think about our soldiers thanks to the awareness charities like Help for Heroes have been raising.
“I was pleased to help in any way I could as I believe we all hold a massive debt of gratitude to both our serving and former soldiers. I would encourage people locally to do what they can to support this cause."
Mr Mundell said: “The events held all across our area and our country are a fitting tribute to the sacrifices our Armed Forces make every single day. It provides an opportunity for us all to join together and thank the serving and former service personnel who have displayed outstanding acts of courage and loyalty in defence of our country, in order to protect the freedom we all too often take for granted.”
The mission of the charity Help for Heroes is to deliver an enduring national network of support for our wounded and their families. We will inspire and enable those who have made sacrifices on our behalf to achieve their full potential.
The war in Afghanistan may be nearly over, but for those who have suffered life-changing injuries, their battles are just beginning, and the charity and its supporters will not let them fight these battles alone.
