Local Better Together activists were out in force at the weekend, defying the weather at Saturday’s Dumfries Show to set out the positive case for remain part of the United Kingdom. Despite the rain the stall was busy all day with voters stopping off to ask questions and express their support for the campaign.
Local activists and politicians were keen to take the opportunity to sign up as many new volunteers as possible ahead of the final push in the referendum campaign.
Commenting Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell said: “As the campaign enters the home straight it is more important than ever to get our positive case for the United Kingdom out there. The strong response to the campaign at Dumfries Show was yet another boost for Better Together locally, with the overwhelming majority of people saying No Thanks to separation. However we are taking nothing for granted and we are still looking for as many volunteers as possible as we make our final push to convince undecided voters.
“We are now at the stage where we have to accept the SNP are not going to answer the questions people have about the likely effects of independence here in Dumfries and Galloway. As far as I am concerned that is just not good enough and it is now up to those of us who believe we are Better Together to make sure people have all the facts and information they need.”
