An artistic pupil from Dumfriesshire has received a special pre-Christmas present from her local MP, David Mundell.
Lauren Moore, from Closeburn Primary, has beaten more than 500 other primary children to win an art competition run by the Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP.
Each year Mr Mundell organises a competition for schoolchildren in his massive constituency, with the winning entries being used on his annual Christmas card.
This year there were more than 550 entries for the competition, with the overall winner receiving a cycle as prize, and four runners-up each receiving a £25 Amazon voucher. The entries were judged by players from Annan FC.
Lauren Moore from Closeburn Primary is the overall winner. The runners-up are Larissa Haynes, Lamington Primary, Clydesdale; Ellie McEwen, St Columba’s Primary, Annan, Annandale; Kelsey Brannan, Langholm Primary, Eskdale; Katie Methercot, Priorsford Primary, Peebles, Tweeddale.
“The standard of entries this year was very high, and gave the judges a hard job in choosing the winners,” said Mr Mundell. “Each year the quality of designs from schoolchildren across the constituency grows, and I never cease to be amazed by the great artistic talent shown by these young people. They are all to be congratulated for their highly imaginative and talented entries.”
Each year the Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP sends out 1000 Christmas cards to local volunteers and community organisations across his large constituency.
Lauren’s winning picture is printed on the front cover of Mr Mundell’s 2012 Christmas card, with the entries of the four runners-up appearing on the back.
