Peebles businessman Keith Cockburn has been selected to stand as the local Conservative candidate in the forthcoming Tweeddale West by-election to Scottish Borders Council. Living in Peebles with his young family and with deep roots in the community, Keith promises to be a strong voice for local people on Scottish Borders Council.
Commenting following his selection this week, Keith Cockburn said: “I am delighted to have been selected to fight this by-election and to have the opportunity to campaign on the sort of local issues I am passionate about. I believe I have what it takes to represent all the residents of Tweeddale West and to be an effective Councillor for our area. I am ready for the challenge and if elected I would work tirelessly to ensure our communities get the best possible deal.”
“After attending Peebles High School, I moved to Edinburgh for several years having gained a job there with a printing company. However, my heart has always been in Peeblesshire and when my second child was born I decided that I wanted to raise my family locally so moved back to Peebles in 2001.”
“Along with my wife Michelle and children Michael, Rebekah and James, I live in Kittlegairy Gardens and I am Managing Director of our family business Caledonian Colour Printers.”
“I now feel I am at a stage in my life, with my business running well and my family growing up, where I believe I can take on the commitment to the people of Tweeddale West to serve you as your local Councillor.”
“My campaign has already hit the ground running and I look forward to meeting as many local residents as possible over the coming weeks and month and discussing the important issues and opportunities we face here in Tweeddale West.”
Keith received the backing of local MP David Mundell, who said: “Keith has all the skills and experience to provide Peebles, West Linton and the communities of Upper Tweed with a strong voice and make sure that local concerns are heard and acted upon. As somebody who has lived, worked and chosen to raise his family locally, he knows the concerns of people throughout the ward and I am sure that if elected to the Council he could make a real difference for this area. I look forward to joining him out and about on the doorstep over coming months and talking to as many local people as possible.”
