TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell has welcomed news that the Crook Inn now officially belongs to the Tweedsmuir Community Company.
The Tweedsmuir community group ended 2012 with the £160,000 required to buy the historic 17thC inn, and have now taken possession following completion of legal paperwork.
Local MP David Mundell has been supporting the campaign to save the Crook Inn since the start and said this week: "This is great news and a fantastic start to 2013 for this hard working group of volunteers. I never doubted their ability to achieve this goal thanks to their resolve and hard work.
"Those behind this project, the Tweedsmuir Community Company and its supporters, worked very hard to raise the £160,000 required to acquire this well known and historic local building. I congratulate them on their great efforts and will continue to back their campaign, with the next stage being to raise money for essential repairs.
“This important local project is all about restoring ‘the Crook’ as the heart of the community once more, and at the same time providing jobs and preserving history, and this latest news brings that dream one step closer,” said Mr Mundell, adding that he will do all he can to continue to support the project as it moves forward.
