Eskdale MP David Mundell is set to host a summit in Langholm in order to address the ongoing job losses suffered in the Eskdale area in recent months.
Mr Mundell's call comes after news emerged that the Edinburgh Woollen Mill are potentially planning to move from their base in Langholm to Carlisle in what would be the latest blow for jobs in the region following losses at the Border Fine Arts Factory as well as the potential closure of the Eskdale and Liddesdale Advertiser.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: "I'm calling for a major summit to be held in Langholm in order for every interested stakeholder to come and discuss the job losses that have hugely affected workers and families in Langholm and the surrounding communities in recent months.
"The latest news about a potential move by the Edinburgh Woollen Mill is the latest in a series of blows on the job front for the Muckle Toon and we need to seriously address this.
"The communities of Langholm and Eskdale are very strong and the job losses have been a hammer blow to the spirit in the area and that situation needs to be reversed.
"That is why this summit will be calling on everyone from Dumfries and Galloway Council, the Scottish Government, Scottish Enterprise, local representatives and other key local community groups to play their part in helping turn around Langholm and encourage investment from businesses into the area.
"Langholm and Eskdale as a whole have a wonderfully rich history but with ongoing job losses that feeling starts to be lost which would be a real tragedy.
"I hope this summit can be held as soon as possible to urgently address major job losses in Langholm and how we can secure long-term employment for people living in this region."
