Eskdale MP David Mundell has hit out at the loss of potential jobs at the Border Fine Arts Factory in Langholm describing it as a hammer blow to the area.
Commenting David Mundell MP said: "This is hugely disappointing news and if the job losses do go ahead this will be a hammer blow to the economy in Langholm and the surrounding area.
"The job losses which could occur here would be the equivalent of hundreds in the central belt and the right support must be there from the Government and other agencies for those affected and the community in general.
"Whilst consumer demand is said to have dropped, Enesco should be doing all they can over this consultation to mitigate the effects of any job losses which will have come as a real shock to families in this area.
"The Border Fine Arts Factory has been a long standing business for the Eskdale area and the factory has produced some wonderful products over the years and it will be a very sad day if production is stopped at the Langholm sites.
"I'm very keen to talk with Enesco to find out what their plans are during this consultation."
