Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell has just returned from a visit to the European Parliament where he had discussions on the current state of the Common Agricultural policy talks.
“Farming is a major industry within my constituency, and so the future of the CAP talks is a subject of importance to many constituents whose livelihoods depend on any EU decision,” said Mr Mundell.
During his visit Mr Mundell also met MEP Struan Stevenson, who has represented Scotland in the European Parliament since 1999.
“While at Strasbourg I was delighted to be able to meet up with Struan, who has devoted more than 13 years to looking after Scotland’s interests at the European Parliament. He is planning to retire next year, so I was able to thank him for all his efforts on our behalf, particularly on fishing and farming issues,” said Mr Mundell.
“He has strong connections with my constituency and has always been a good friend in championing issues affecting the south of Scotland,” he added.
Struan Stevenson MEP is well known in Europe and Scotland for his in-depth knowledge and understanding of Scottish affairs. Struan is the Senior Vice President of the European Parliament Fisheries Committee, President of the European Parliament’s Climate Change, Biodiversity & Sustainable Development Intergroup, President of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Iraq and President of the Friends of Free Iran Intergroup. He is also heavily committed to animal welfare issues.
As a Conservative MEP, Struan is a member of the European Conservatives & Reformists Group (ECR).
