Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell has welcomed the announcement that the opening stage of the 10th anniversary Tour of Britain will start from Peebles on September 15.
And the opening stage will finish at Drumlanrig Castle after taking some of cycling’s leading stars across 201 kms of roads in the Scottish Borders and Dumfriesshire.
“Last year’s visit by The Tour was a great occasion for people in Tweeddale and Dumfriesshire, and I am delighted that it is returning in 2013. It meant millions of tv viewers across not just the UK but abroad were able to see some of this areas beautiful scenery as riders raced over our roads. The decision to base The Grand Depart in Peebles and then running the stage to Drumlanrig is great news for tourism in our area, and of course gives locals a unique chance to see some of the sport’s leading riders in action without travelling vast distances,” said Mr Mundell.
