Dumfrieshire MP David Mundell has congratulated Queen of the South for their unprecedented double, winning the Ramsdens Cup after clinching the Second Division championship.
The champions won the Ramsdens Cup following a tense 6-5 penalty shoot-out win over First Division leaders Partick Thistle at the Braidwood Motor Company Stadium.
Last month they became the first team in Britain to win a league title this season after a comprehensive 6-0 defeat of Brechin gave them the Scottish Second Division title.
Allan Johnston's side wrapped up promotion with six games to spare having lost only once all campaign.
It is an instant return to the second tier for the Doonhammers, who were relegated on last season’s final day.
Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell who has added his congratulations to those being received by Queen of the South this morning, said “To hold off the First Division leaders and win a penalty shoot out is a great advert for Scottish football in general, and our own Dumfriesshire talent in particular
“This was a great result and everyone in the team deserves congratulations for a fantastic season, one which puts local football back in the First Division. The weekend’s win is just the icing on the cake. And I am sure everyone in Dumfriesshire joins me in wishing them an equally successful season to come,” said the MP.
