Dumfriesshire MP, David Mundell, is gathering support for early morning and late trains from Lockerbie.
The local MP has launched a petition for better rail links and services from Lockerbie Station.
Mr Mundell met with Scotland's Transport Minister Keith Brown last month, where he put forward the case for rail connection improvements in Dumfriesshire.
He claims the existing timetable prevents commuters from using the train to get to work in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
And he hopes Keith Brown will force train companies to make more stops at Lockerbie.
"I am determined to get the balanced timetable of services that Lockerbie needs, as well as making sure there are enough seats on the trains we currently have.
"At my meeting with Scotland's Transport Minister Keith Brown I pressed for his support in these discussions with Transpennine, and also asked him to consider including in the ScotRail franchise an early morning Carlisle to Edinburgh service, as well as late night services for my area.
"Keith Brown has asked me for evidence that local people would use these extra services and I am confident that this petition will provide that evidence,” said the MP.
He added: “We want to get hundreds of names. Lockerbie station is already a very popular station serving a wide area of Dumfriesshire, however there is pressure on existing trains.
"But these early and late trains to Glasgow and Edinburgh are something that we've wanted for a long time. We need to get a balanced timetable from this station and so allow people to get to and from the cities of Scotland, either for work or for leisure," said Mr Mundell.
Copies of the petition are available to sign at Moffat Town Hall, Moffat Post Office, Moffat Papershop, and David Mundell's office, all in Moffat, and at Lockerbie Town Hall or it can be accessed on line at www.ipetitions.com/petition/lockerbie-station-petition/
