Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell was seen sporting a red nose at Westminster this week to show his support for Comic Relief. The organisation celebrates its 25 anniversary this Friday and Mr Mundell was keen to highlight the tremendous work it has been doing in that time both here in the UK and overseas. Mr Mundell wanted to join in the spirit of the hundreds of people across his constituency, including a number of school children who have been doing there bit. After visiting Malawi last month to see the work the UK Government and projects supported by people from this region Mr Mundell has seen firsthand the benefit donations make.
Commenting Mr Mundell said: “Comic Relief has been making a real difference to people and communities over the last 25 years, both at home and abroad. I wanted to show my support and get in the spirit of things and hopeful raise a few laughs along the way. Politicians are always keen to avoid looking silly but Comic Relief has shown us that one of the best ways to make a difference is to break down barriers and use comedy to raise the profile of very serious issues. My recent trip to Malawi once again highlighted the benefits even a small amount of support can make in what are very challenging conditions.”
Mr Mundell added: “I am really proud of the work local people do to support charities both big and small and I wish anyone planning a fundraising event all the best for Friday.”
