Dumfriesshire MP David Mundell recently joined pupils at Brownhall Primary School, Kingholm Quay, to discuss his job and politics as part of a class project.
He was invited in to talk to pupils about what being an MP involves and they asked him a range of tough questions on political issues
Afterwards the local MP said: “I was impressed by the knowledge and the research the pupils had carried out before my visit
The Dumfriesshire MP said: “I was also extremely impressed by the knowledge and interest the pupils had in politics and today’s important debates. It should remind us all that these children are the voters, and maybe even the politicians, of tomorrow and so should be encouraged to take an interest in the running of their country.”
Mr Mundell added: “I really enjoyed my visit to the school and it was great to see teachers working so hard to get young people engaged in important political issues in a fun and informative way.”
“Helping people understand what an MP does is one of the most important things I do and I am always keen to take time out of my busy schedule to talk to young people about democracy.”
