Local MP objects to new wind farms at Middle Muir and Leadhills
Local MP David Mundell has today written to the Scottish Government and South Lanarkshire Council to reiterate his objections to the erection of two new wind farms at Middle Muir and Leadhills.
Mr Mundell has been a consistent critic of new wind farms in the area, which has, in his view, been overrun with large scale wind farm developments and applications for further wind farms.
Mr Mundell commented: "My view on wind farms is well known - enough is enough. Local people deserve the right to decide what is best for their area, and I have heard time and again from constituents that they are fed up with the wholesale industrialisation of the countryside.
“This is totally unfair on people who have moved to this part of the world for a bit of peace and quiet, and yet find the landscape blotted by giant wind turbines. In my constituency it is hard to find a hill without a wind turbine - so I have every sympathy with local residents trying to block the plans.
"I urge local people to get involved in the consultation process, and to register concerns that they may have about proposed developments. We are lucky to live in such a beautiful part of the country, and it is absolutely right that people who live in the area should have their say on what happens to our local countryside. My constituency already includes some of the UK's largest wind farms, and people have simply had enough," he added.
