Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale and Tweeddale MP David Mundell has welcomed the return of the Tour to the region which takes place this Tuesday. The Tour which passes through the Scottish Borders and Dumfries & Galloway for the second year in succession is an excellent opportunity to promote the area and provides a chance to see high profile sports stars up close, even if they will be travelling at speeds in excess of 40mph.
Commenting ahead of Stage 3 Mr Mundell said: “This event is an excellent chance to showcase the natural beauty and scenery of our region to a wider audience. It is the perfect ending to a summer of sport and will provide an important boost to the local economy.
“It will be great for local residents to have the opportunity to see the likes of Bradley Wiggins up close and has the potential to inspire the next generation of sports starts. After the tremendous reception the event got last year it seems fitting that it would return this year and I would like to wish everyone involved the best of luck.”
