Local MP David Mundell has welcomed new rules which could help farmers with flooded fields.
The Scottish Environmental Protection Agency (SEPA) has announced new dredging arrangements which will allow farmers to help prevent valuable fields from being flooded.
Scotland’s farming leaders have been pressing for changes to the rules for two years. The problem of clogged drainage ditches and flooded fields has become a serious problem for farmers across the country as continual rain has left fields under water for months, and in some cases years
The Dumfriesshire, Clydesdale & Tweeddale MP said: “Flooding continues to be a serious issue for farmers across our region and any action by SEPA to make things easier is to be welcomed. As the new policy is rolled out and implemented I am hopeful that local farmers will see a real difference and will be able to make full use of their land.”
