Clydesdale MP David Mundell has congratulated two award winning business in Biggar.
Atkinson-Pryce Books have won the regional stage (Scotland and Isle of Man) of the Independent Bookseller of the Year and will be heading to London as finalists in the Bookseller Industry Awards in May.
The company are no strangers to winning top awards, with past accolades including being a winner in the Scottish Independent Retail Awards 2011.
Atkinson-Pryce has been an integral part of Biggar's thriving High Street since opening in November 1993.
“This is a small, friendly local bookshop with a warm welcome and a relaxing atmosphere in which to browse, and their personal, high-quality service would be hard to match in larger shops,” said the MP, adding: “I now hope they go on to win the main award in May.”
Biggar’s other award winner is The Biggar Flavour, run by Ranald and Jane Brown since 2011. They have taken home-baking to a new level, winning a prestigious Scottish Homebaking Award.
“Fantastic and phenomenal” were just two of the adjectives used by the assessors to describe their home baking.
After visiting their shop David Mundell agreed. “This was a very worthy award and Ranald and Jane richly deserve this accolade.
“Individual shops such as these are one of the reasons why Biggar is such a great town in which to shop and I hope they go from strength to strength,” he said.
