TWEEDDALE MP David Mundell will be at this weekend’s Peebles Show as he continues his round of visiting agricultural shows in his large rural constituency.
Saturday’s show offers him an opportunity to meet and chat with local farmers, and keeping in touch with issues in the Tweeddale farming community.
The MP said: “I fully understand and appreciate the conditions experienced over the past few months have been extremely tough for rural Scotland and the agriculture industry as a whole. Farmers across this region have show incredible resilience and deserve a lot of credit for overcoming the challenges which the weather in particular has thrown at us.
“I share their relief that we are having a good summer, following, as it does, a number of very unseasonable summers, and last year’s wash-out.
“Whilst many agricultural matters are devolved, the UK Coalition Government is committed to supporting agricultural industries across the UK. I am pleased that we now have a Government in Westminster which understands farming and agriculture issues and takes them seriously.
“Both here in the constituency and at Westminster I am committed to providing the strongest possible voice for those in the farming community and I believe that starts by listening to the problems and concerns people have, which is one of the reasons that I will be at Saturday’s Peebles Show, where I hope to meet as many of my constituents as possible,” he added.
