Tweeddale MP David Mundell was delighted to welcome the Queen to Peebles today (Wednesday), the town’s second Royal visit in less than a month.
In June Prince Charles and Camilla, known as the Duke and Duchess of Rothesay in Scotland, were welcomed to Peebles by the local MP.
Mr Mundell then joined Prince Charles on a tour of Robert Noble Mill, alongside the owners and employees.
This week he was honoured to be welcoming the Queen to the Borders town, her first visit to Peebleshire in 25 years.
She was given a tour of the new John Buchan Museum in Peebles, a building which showcases the life and times of Lord Tweedsmuir, one of Scotland's literary sons.
Her Majesty met members of the Buchan family before touring the High Street museum, which is housed in the town's Chambers Institution, to view exhibits and meet staff.
During the visit she saw a display of photographs from the royal visit in 1947, when Anna Buchan was presented to HM King George VI.
The Queen also met representatives of the local community and viewed the War Memorial before continuing to the Council Hall and Council Chambers where she met John Buchan Trustees, donors to the Museum, representatives of the Chambers Institution Trust and local officials before signing the Visitors’ Book.
Afterwards Mr Mundell said: “She received a very warm reception and welcome from local people and the individuals she met, showing the real community spirit and civic pride we have here in the Borders.
“This Royal visit provides a real boost for the town and I was very pleased to be there today. I was delighted that she was able to see some of the tourist and historic attractions we have in Peebles, somewhere which values its tourist trade highly.
“To have two Royal visits in such a short space of time is a very great honour for Peebles, and I am sure this is something local people will look back on with pride.
“More generally the visits once again underline just some of the outstanding businesses and attractions Peebles offers,” he added.
